  • Jazz and A Capella Choir perform “Friend Like Me” from Disney’s “Aladdin.”

  • Senior, Ruby Holland, performs “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid.”

As COVID-19 still keeps us out of school, many events are changing in order to accommodate the safety of staff and students. Choir is one of the many performing arts that must adapt to these new circumstances.

In order to properly adhere to COVID-19 precautions, the choir department held a Virtual Disney Concert on Friday, Oct. 9th. Kelly Caswell, the choir director, created a live stream on Youtube that allowed people to watch and comment on the concert. The concert began at 6 p.m. and lasted about an hour.

Throughout this concert, there were many solo performances, group performances, and even an appearance from the Jazz Band. There were countless enjoyable moments seeing as the whole theme of the concert was “Disney” including multiple reminiscent songs that many people could recall from their childhood, creating a happy, nostalgic atmosphere.

One of the biggest things I noticed was the adaption of stage presence by the solo performers. It is very difficult to show individual personality and ability through a pre-recorded video on a live stream, but I found that many, if not all, of the solo performers did a great job with their stage presence. My favorite performance was the song “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid” sung by Ruby Holland. This performance was super entertaining and Holland’s stage presence was phenomenal.

Overall this new adaptation of virtual concerts was a success, and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
