With famous hits such as “Baby One More time” and “Toxic” Britney Spears is well known for her unique voice and catchy songs. And as many fans who follow her already know, Britney is finally free from her father.

In 2008 Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, was appointed his daughter conservator in a California court, starting the beginning of 13 years of control. Britney’s father now had authority over life, including her money, and social life claiming that she was unable to make decisions for herself.

Fans knew that Spears had mental health issues, and could see her slowly deteriorating before their eyes. The original Free Britney movement was created by fans in 2009 after the court appointed a conservator to the singer. The movement began to trend online again in 2020, with the hashtag #FreeBritney, after the 38 year old singer checked into a mental health facility which many believed she did against her will. People marched and protested holding signs that said #FreeBritney while also live streaming to make their voices heard.

In July of 2020 it was reported that Britney’s mother, Lynne, filed legal documents requesting special notice to her daughters income, making sure everything was going where it was supposed to. A month later Britney herself then requested for a California court to put a stop to her fathers conservatorship.

After years of waiting the day finally came. On Sept. 29, 2021 Judge Brenda Penny took the side of the singer and officially suspended her father from his conservatorship over her.

The question now is, what will Britney do next now that she is free? Well considering her years of mental trauma Spears has said that she will take some time to work on herself. Also Posting on Instagram thanking fans for always being by her side.
