What Happened During This Year’s VMAs
On Aug. 28, many famous celebrities and influencers attended MTV’s 2022 Video Music Awards. This year’s VMAs was very eventful with many people still talking about it weeks later.
This year’s hosts were Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow, and LL Cool J. They put on a spectacular show for everyone that was watching.
According to CNN, there were many winners this year that received more than one award:
Taylor Swift won video of the year and best direction.
Jack Harlow won best collaboration, best art direction, best visual effects, all with Lil Nas X, and he also won song of the summer.
Harry Styles won best pop, best cinematography, and album of the year.
Other artists that won were Lizzo, BTS, LISA, Bad Bunny, Dove Cameron, The Weeknd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Billie Eilish.
The show-stopping moment this year was when Taylor Swift announced her 10th studio album, which will be released later on this year.
When receiving the video of the year award, during her acceptance speech, she made everyone in the audience and at home freak out.
Her new album, “Midnights,” will be released on Oct. 21st. After the VMAs, she posted on her social media platforms that this album is about “the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”
She added, “This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.” This album will be raw and filled with many emotions, and people will see Swift’s iinsight when writing her music.
Another show-stopping moment was when Red Hot Chili Peppers received the prestigious Global Icon Award and performed. This long-running band had not attended this award show in over two decades. They have only performed at the VMAs three times before this year in 1992, 1995, and 2000.
Finally, Nicki Minaj won the Vanguard Award, meaning that she is leading the way for her genre. To many she is seen as someone that has broken barriers for women in hip-hop due to her adaptive and imaginative artistry. She will forever be an icon to so many women.
It is safe to say that the VMAs was extremely eventful and will always be remembered.
