Stay Frosty for Modern Warfare 2
The wait is finally over! Activision alongside Infinity Ward released their 19th installment in the Call of Duty franchise, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.”
When the release date was announced back in June of 2022, many fans wondered if this sequel would top their previous game, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare,” especially with it being a hit during the 2020 pandemic.
According to IGN, Modern Warfare 2 made an estimated 1 billion USD in worldwide sales in the first 10 days of its release. So, why is this game making record breaking sales, and what is so great about it?
Upon beginning the campaign, it is obvious that Activision wanted to show off their graphical engineering team’s incredible work. The game contains stunning visuals as you travel through environments such as forests, rivers, cities, high-rise buildings, deserts, and more.
The visually appealing graphics coupled with the intriguing storyline results in the player feeling as if they are truly at war.
The campaign follows British Special Forces unit Task Force 141 uniting with the Mexican Special Forces as they attempt to track down Iranian terrorist, Hassan Zyani.
The multiplayer aspect of the game has a love and hate relationship within the community. Players are complaining about the movement due to the removed slide cancel mechanic, while others find it more balanced and realistic. Some are even despising certain map layouts, while others love the fresh new ideas that Activision had in store.
Many people are also criticizing the confusing unlock system. Unlike previous Call of Duties, instead of the ordinary level up and unlock weapons mechanic, a player must earn experience on a weapon before being able to use another in a different class. For example, if a player would like to use a specific sub-machine gun (SMG), they would initially have to level up an assault rifle (AR) in order to use it.
Overall, the campaign was perfectly executed, and the graphics are impressively realistic. The multiplayer feels like a brand new game rather than the same pieces of content being recycled throughout the history of the franchise, providing different playing styles for each player.
With Warzone 2.0 now released, hopefully gamers all around will make memorable moments as they did in Warzone 1.0.
