On Feb. 17, 1989, “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” was released in theaters, and it delivers a truly excellent adventure. Starring Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, it focuses on two high school friends who are in danger of failing their history class.
While they are struggling to get their final report done, a man from the future named Rufus, played by George Carlin, comes out of the sky in a time machine and offers his help. He gives the two friends the time machine in order to help them pass their class; this starts their excellent adventure through history.
On their adventure, they meet a lot of famous people from history, such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Billy the Kid, Socrates, Abraham Lincoln and many more. One of the best parts of this movie is the main characters themselves, Bill and Ted. They say things like “bodacious” or “bogus,” which makes the dialogue fun to watch and listen to. Winter and Reeves do a great job as Bill and Ted and give incredibly memorable performances as the two characters.
The movie has a 80’s rock/metal soundtrack with Bill and Ted mentioning bands like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, and Iron Maiden. This works really well in giving more depth to the characters, and it also helps to set the time that the movie takes place in.
The historical figures in the movie all give good performances with some of the best ones being Billy the Kid and Socrates. The two of them become good friends after meeting, even though they don’t speak the same language, and they give the movie some of its best moments. Overall, I think this movie is a really fun time and definitely worth seeing.
