“Legend,” written by Marie Lu, is the first book of a trilogy. The next two books are “Prodigy” and “Champion.” “Legend” came out on Nov. 29, 2011. The story is focused on the Colonies (the poor side) and the Republic (the rich side).
The beginning of the book starts off introducing one of the main characters Daniel “Day” Altan Wing, and he’s from the Colonies. The chapters go back and forth between the two main characters’ point of views, Day and June, who are both 15 years old. Day is a criminal who is very smart and has not gotten caught for anything that he has done. In the Colonies, there is a very deadly virus going around, but weirdly enough, it wasn’t spreading in the Republic side. Since Day has committed many crimes, his family thinks he is dead. He wants his parents to think that because he doesn’t believe they are safe if he is around.
June Iparis is from the Republic. Her parents died when she was little, so she is living with her brother Metias Iparis and her dog Ollie. Later on in the story, Metias was murdered when he was trying to catch Day. Since June graduated high school at the age of twelve, she started college at Drake University at the age of fifteen. Her brother was the Republic’s top Soldier. Because June was going to school to become a field agent, she then decided to take over to get justice for her brother and discover who killed Metias.
I loved the climax in this book. There are many many plot twists throughout the whole book. The enemies to lovers dynamic is another aspect of this book that I loved so much. It’s not overpowered with romance and has a good mix of love, war, and action.
This book/series is such an amazing read. If you like romance, action, and stories with plot twists, then this book is for you.
