Director Sofia Coppola has once again made a film that tells a woman’s story with good acting and even better emotions coming from the screen with her new film “Priscilla.”
“Priscilla” is about the life of Priscilla Presley (Elvis Presley’s ex wife) when she was married to Elvis and the struggles that she went through that eventually led to the break up. Coppola based the film off the memoir “Elvis and Me.”
Not only did they use her book, but Priscilla had a very big role in the making of this film as well, as she produced the film with Coppola.
When I went into the theater, I thought I was prepared for what was going to happen. I expected a quick and cute love story between a fan and a celebrity. Instead, I came out perplexed and with a very different perspective on Elvis than I had while growing up.
I give “Priscilla” a 4/5, mainly because I felt that, although the movie had that genuine feeling to it, the ending left me feeling empty and unfulfilled. I wished there was more to the story. I wanted to see the aftermath of the divorce and what her life was like without Elvis because Priscilla was and is so much more than her relationship with Elvis.
I would still recommend this to anyone who enjoys the story and aesthetics of Coppola’s films, as they have a certain charm to them that leaves people wanting more and needing to explore the lives of the different people within each film.
