At nearly 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, outside the Valencia Town Center mall in Santa Clarita, a white SUV crashed into a crowd of people along the sidewalk.
The incident occurred at the Black and Blue Restaurant, where people reported that an SUV was performing donuts on the road before the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into the crowd.
Six people were struck and injured, although no serious injuries were sustained. The vehicle then backed out of the sidewalk and drove away. Fortunately, a license plate was left behind at the scene, leading police to find the vehicle and make two arrests shortly after the incident occurred.
The two women in the SUV were arrested on Magic Mountain Parkway, where they failed sobriety tests conducted by the officers. They await DUIs and other charges.
Six people suffered minor injuries, and the patio of the restaurant sustained some damage, knocking a few bricks out of the wall.
This incident occurred due to actions taken by intoxicated people, combined with the idea to perform stunts in the middle of a public road. Drunk driving is already a serious problem that could lead to devastating consequences, but the chances of a fatal crash increase significantly when the driver is committed to carrying out stunts on the road.
It is important to be wary of vehicles that appear to be operated by inebriated individuals. Common signs of drunk driving are tailgating, zig-zagging across the road, and driving too close to the curb. If you see someone performing donuts or other stunts on the road, be cautious regardless of their sobriety.
Remember that drunk decisions are bad decisions, and although the repercussions in this case were luckily minimal, the outcome could have been much worse.
