Laura Nowlin, author of the award-winning book “If He Had Been With Me,” has come out with a second part to the book to keep fans satisfied. If you are on the “BookTok” side of TikTok, you probably recognize the title “If Only I Had Told Her.”
“If Only I Had Told Her” is a very heartwarming story that focuses on love, the power of forgiveness, and mainly loss and what it can do to a person. It follows the story of a girl, Autumn Davis, who has to deal with the regret of not expressing her true feelings before it was too late. The first book, “If He Had Been With Me,” is written mainly in Autumn’s (the main character’s) perspective, where we see her point of view of the story. In the new book, “If Only I Had Told Her,” we get to see how this story looked to our other main character, Finn.
Everything that happened in the first book was already so heartbreaking, so when reading the second book, knowing everything that had happened, made it an even sadder and heartbreaking story. Goodreads user malaksaadd_ explains, “reading this book was like ripping a band-aid, and this is even sadder than ‘If He Had Been With Me’ while the story was devastating from autumn’s pov, it destroyed me from finny’s pov.”
I really really love this book. The pages were not too hard to read, it had good vocabulary, and overall, it just was a really interesting book. I never wanted to put it down from the second I started reading it. I loved the plot of the story, but it also makes me sad because I know for a fact they would have been so good together. I also think a lot of teens can relate to this story in different ways, so I definitely recommend this book.
This book was exactly what fans needed to get the closure they were looking for from the first book, and it left everyone happy. Readers got to see the heartbreaking story from both perspectives.
Overall, I just loved the characters, and the description was so good that I could see it all in my head as I was reading it. In my opinion, that is what a good book needs.
