Many people know and love the amazing movie “Mamma Mia!” The movie was directed by Phyllida Lloyd and was released on July 18, 2008. Lloyd wanted to show the empowerment of women in this movie. In the beginning, the film introduced Donna Sheridan played by Meryl Streep. Donna is a hotel manager and single mother who is raising her daughter Sophie played by Amanda Seyfried.
As Sophie gets older, her curiosity starts to take over. She finds her mom’s old journal talking about three guys that she had the time of her life with: Sam Carmichel, Harry Bright, and Bill Anderson. On the days leading up to Sophie’s wedding with her fiance Sky, played by Dominic Cooper, she decides to invite the three men who could be her father to the wedding, but her mother doesn’t know that they are coming, so they have to keep it a secret.
This movie is a great cinematic masterpiece. Lloyd shows women empowerment by showing Donna as a single mother and a hardworking hotel owner. She shows that you don’t need anyone to become the best version of yourself.
If you love rom-coms, women’s empowerment, and living life to the fullest, this movie would be a great watch for you. I love the suspense there is with hiding the guys from Donna and even the suspense with finding out who Sophie’s dad is. This movie is a great musical. All the acting is amazing, and I 100% recommend watching “Mamma Mia!” if you haven’t already.
