Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, professionally known as Lana Del Rey, is an American singer and songwriter. Del Rey is 39 years old and has just married Jeremy Dufrene.
She was born in New York on June 21, 1985, to an upper-middle-class family. As she was growing up, she began singing in church. She finished school, and then shortly after started her music career.
The artist performed as “Sparkle Jump Rope Queen” before she changed her stage name to Lana Del Rey. She first had the spelling “Ray”, and then changed it to “Rey,” influenced by her nights out with her sister, Caroline, and friends in Miami.
“I knew that I wanted a name that sounded sort of exotic and reminded me of the seaside on the Floridian coast,” she described. “Lana Del Rey sounded beautiful to me and I wanted a name for the music that I could start shaping the music towards, just something beautiful.”
Del Rey’s fame rose from her debut single, “Video Games,” and took off after the album, “Born to Die.” Her melancholic style of pop music falls under the genre of alternative pop. Her music varies from diverse emotions and stories. With her top-notch vocals and her angelic voice, she gives each song a powerful meaning to her listeners.
