Canyon High School’s dance team is proud to present Dancing with the Athlete, an event that will be held on Friday, Nov. 15 in the Performing Arts Center.
The varsity dance team came up with the idea of a fundraiser based on the show “Dancing with the Stars,” which can be streamed on Disney+ or cable television. The fundraiser will have the same characteristics as the show, but it will have its own twist.
Just like how the actual show has judges, the dance team has decided to pick five Canyon High School teachers to be judges for this event. Similarly to how in the show a dancer dances with a star, a Canyon dancer will dance and compete with a Canyon athlete from any sport.
The event will consist of two rounds in which each dancer and their athlete will perform the dance they have created. After round one, the judges will choose their top five favorite performances, and those contestants will move to round two. In round two, the five pairs will perform their second performance with their athlete, and trophies will be given out from there.
The performance is a fun experience for everyone. Not many of the athletes participating have any experience with dance, and this would be their first time doing so, which makes this event that much more fun.
Senior dancer Emily Begue Utreras explained that she is “so excited to perform” and feels as if “this event would be so funny for everyone to come to watch.”
With all the hard work that the dancers and athletes will be putting into this event, the dance team encourages all Canyon Cowboys and their families to come out and watch some of their favorite sports players try to dance.
Tickets will be sold starting in November, with prices being $5 for students and $15 for general admission. To buy tickets, visit the dance team’s Instagram @canyondanceteam for more information.
The Canyon Dance Team is so excited about this performance and hopes to see you there!
