Spotify is a popular streaming service that has access to hundreds of thousands songs. One thing many Spotify users look forward to at the end of each year is Spotify Wrapped.
Every year, Spotify compiles the data of users’ accounts and creates an interactive slideshow that shows each user their information, such as the total minutes they listened to and their top songs and artists of the year.
This year, many Spotify users took to the internet with complaints and concerns about the release date of Spotify Wrapped. In previous years, everyone’s Wrapped came out earlier, such as last year in 2023 when it was released on Nov. 29. The fact that previous years had Wrapped come out early led many to speculate that this year would have been much bigger and have more information.
Everyone’s Wrapped came out early in the morning on Dec. 4, 2024, and many users were confused. This year’s Wrapped had less information on what people listened to than last year’s Wrapped. For example, last year had an interesting chart that showed users music listening for each month of the year, but that feature was missing this year.
Canyon student Hendrix Chandler said, “I don’t know what happened, but it’s like they put no effort into Wrapped this year.” These feelings can be seen everywhere on social media as well.
On TikTok, many users are complaining about how parts of the Wrapped this year seem AI-generated, especially in one section that shows a genre you listened to. This genre is completely random and is a bunch of buzz words combined to go with an artist, such as “Football Underground,” or “Hallyu Hollywood.”
Another reason many suspect this year’s Wrapped was subpar was because of the mass culling the company did of employees.
All this comes as many share their own Wrapped on social media platforms, so how do you feel about your own Spotify Wrapped?
