On Aug. 7, 2010, a legend was created. This was the day that the L.A. Beast YouTube channel was created. To better understand the L.A. Beast, let’s go back to the beginning.
The L.A. Beast is a competitive eater and YouTuber who was born into this world in 1984 as Kevin Thomas Strahle. However, it would be quite a while before he became the Beast he is known as today.
On Aug. 26, 2010, his first video titled “Fatburger XXXXXL King Challenge” was posted on YouTube. In this video, he attempted to eat a burger weighing in at three pounds! This might sound like an impossible feat, but not for the L.A. Beast. He was just getting started.
Following this first video, he continued posting similar challenges onto his channel. On Dec. 6, 2011, he posted “L.A. BEAST- Eating Feats Of Strength (38 Sliders in 16 min).” In a similar fashion to the video mentioned before, he takes on a challenge to eat 30 sliders in 30 minutes. However, this is the L.A. Beast, so he ate 38 sliders in only 16 minutes! Not only did he finish the challenge in less than half the time provided, but he even ate an extra 8 sliders.
One of his most popular videos is from Feb. 13, 2013, entitled “Enjoying A 20 Year Old CRYSTAL PEPSI.” The video is exactly how it sounds: he drinks a Crystal Pepsi from 1992, which was 21 years old at the time. This video went on to spawn a trend with the Beast where he would add Crystal Pepsi to his challenges to wash it down.
This was followed by one of his most well-known endeavors, the Bring Back Crystal Pepsi movement. This movement involved getting the Pepsi Company’s attention with large gatherings of people outside their office as well as billboards around the country. This movement had a happy ending when Pepsi announced the return of the beverage on Dec. 8, 2015.
For years, the Beast has continued challenges like this, but they get more extreme and seemingly impossible.
A great example of these seemingly impossible challenges is his video “The Best Of The L.A. BEAST Challenges GAUNTLET CHALLENGE.” This is one of my personal favorite challenges by the Beast.
In this video, L.A. Beast attempts a gauntlet challenge including eating 12 raw eggs, four hot dogs without chewing, a cactus, and a gallon of milk and Redbull. After finishing these, he was going to end the challenge with an L.A. Beast special: Crystal Pepsi.
These challenges truly do prove that Kevin Thomas Strahle is no more; all that remains is the L.A. Beast.
