It can be challenging to figure out how to spend winter break in order to make the most of all the free time. To make things easier, I’ll be listing some fun places and activities happening in the community to enjoy with family and friends.
Whether you are an expert or inexperienced when it comes to ice skating, a great place to visit is The Cube ice skating rink. With hours open to the public, which are listed on their website, anyone can experience the nice cold indoor environment. Don’t worry about buying equipment because The Cube provides the option to rent skates for a few extra dollars (prices vary depending on age and the size of the party). If you want to experience some winter activities without having to travel far to places like Big Bear or Mammoth, The Cube might be an exciting place for you.
A completely free and fun place to visit with family is the Wakefield Winter Wonderland light street. This neighborhood is the perfect place to take photos and enjoy the decorations. You have the option to drive or walk around the street from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with the last day being on Dec. 29. This is a popular event which causes a lot of traffic, so finding the perfect time to go will make all the difference.
Besides these places and events, other simple options include gingerbread decorating, holiday movie marathons, and exchanging gifts with friends and family as part of Secret Santa or white elephant.
If you want to surprise a loved one, consider making a burr basket. Potential items one can include are some pajamas, a blanket, plushie, and some baked goods.
Throwing an ugly Christmas sweater gathering is another creative option. Gather with friends and family to make your own ugly Christmas sweater by using an old sweater or thrifting and upcycling one for a time full of laughter and fun. Make it a potluck filled with all types of holiday treats, and you can even vote for the best ugly sweater.
Volunteering is another good way to spend the break. Remembering to give back to others in the community and make their day by donating to toy drives and events is a great way to show gratitude.
Whether you decide to go ice skating or just stay at home decorating gingerbread houses, the most important thing to do during this break is rest, spend time with loved ones, and be grateful.
