“How To Train Your Dragon” is a classic movie from DreamWorks Studio about a young viking boy named Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless. The original animated movie came out in 2010 and was received by audiences so well that it received multiple sequels and an adjacent television show about the “How To Train Your Dragon” characters and world.
In February 2023, it was announced that a live-action film adaptation of the original “How To Train Your Dragon” was in the works. Now, in 2025, we have confirmation that the full movie will be released in theaters on June 13, 2025.
The official trailer was released on Feb. 12, 2025 and has amassed 35 million views so far. This trailer shows the visual effects and the computer-generated imagery (CGI) that will be in the movie. Based on the trailer alone, the CGI looks amazing, and the dragons appear extremely realistic.
However, one common critique is that while Toothless, the main dragon in the movie, kept his cartoon-style eyes, other dragons did not have the same style. Instead, they have more realistic, smaller eyes.
Additionally, some fans are critical of the casting of the characters, especially paying attention to the characters of Astrid, Ruffnut, and Fishlegs. These critiques are mainly based on hate, especially about the physical appearance of the actors compared to the animated characters. I believe all the actors are well-established and portray their characters well based on the trailer, so there is no reason to pay attention to such criticisms. Nico Parker, who plays Astrid, fits the character perfectly. Jullian Denison’s personality is amazing for Fishlegs.
So far, the movie has a lot of hype surrounding it as fans around the globe anticipate its release this summer. Will you be going to theaters this summer to watch “How To Train Your Dragon”?
