The first senior event of the year, Senior Sunrise, took place on Aug. 11, 2025. Seniors were invited to the football field at 6 a.m. to hang out with their friends before the start of their final year of high school.
Students were able to choose a spot either on the field or on the bleachers, with the option of bringing their own breakfast. Some students brought homemade coffee, while others bought breakfast items from surrounding restaurants or fast-food locations.
They were also given the chance to write a letter to their future selves, and all those attending were invited up to the bleachers towards the end of the event to take a class photo. After the Senior Sunrise, those who purchased a parking spot got to paint their senior spots.
Many people may wonder what the purpose of the event was, and the answer varied between students. Notably, it allowed the seniors to reconnect with their friends after summer break.
Melanie Ochoa Rueda claims, “sitting down with my friends on our blankets that we brought and just hanging out and talking to each other,” to be the most memorable moment of Senior Sunrise.
Some seniors had feedback as well! For example, when interviewing senior Elise Haupt, she mentioned that Senior Sunrise could start a little earlier, as the sun was already partially risen by the time some seniors got a spot on the field. Senior Kayleigh Behar also noted in an interview that it would be interesting to see more interactive activities during the event.
Just as the sun rises every day, this year’s seniors are ready to rise up to be leaders, friends, and new adults this school year.
