In the fashion industry, clothing is consistently being phased in and out, with items that were once very popular becoming a part of the past. A clothing item that is quite familiar with this process are low rise jeans.
Low rise jeans were once a staple of the 2000s era, with nearly every teenager and young adult owning a pair. Unfortunately, with time, low rise jeans became a thing of the past; they were labeled as inappropriate, unflattering, and worst of all, unfashionable. Fortunately, social media has come across this relic and are persistent on bringing it back to life.
All over popular social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and X, many young people have spoken about their difficult experiences shopping for clothing items, especially jeans. The main concern? The way every pair fits. For some, pants are too tight, too loose, etc. Many users just wished for a pair of jeans that fit well and made them confident. Then, low rise jeans were brought up. They were fashionable, comfortable, and gave many consumers the confidence they wished for.
One of the brands that heard this call is a popular brand named Hollister, which was one of the biggest exporters of low rise jeans in the 2000’s. Many consumers realized that Hollister may be the best brand to give them exactly what they asked for. So, Hollister delivered.
A user on TikTok, that goes by the username @riddickulousss, tried on a couple pairs of their jeans and liked the fit, but there was a consistent problem; although the jeans had a short zipper, which gives the impression it would sit low on the waist, it always felt that the jeans could be lower.
It seems to be a consistent complaint across brands that have re-instated the low rise trend that the jeans never seem “low enough.” Many social media users have complained that many brands are not listening to their consumers and are trying too hard to pander to all types of fashion styles, while also trying to satisfy fashion demand. In response to this issue, many people have decided to start thrift shopping to find a “true” pair of low-rise jeans, the ones that were made in the 2000’s and that are everything they have ever wanted out of a pair of jeans.
Overall, despite the fact that low rise jeans are making an impactful comeback into modern fashion, popular modern companies seem to be falling behind in the trends people wish for. Nevertheless, low rise jeans will not be out seasoned anytime soon and in no time, almost everyone will have a pair in their closet once again.
