What are you going to be this Halloween? Not sure? Here are some ideas to get you into the spooky Halloween spirit!
Arguably one of the most creative holidays, Halloween is a time for people to express themselves and dress in a way they would not be able to at any other time of year. However, with there being countless choices, it seems that choosing a Halloween costume is the most difficult part.
With a holiday that revolves around scares, it would be perfect to dress up as your favorite character from your favorite horror movie. Think Freddy Krugger, Jason Voorhees, Ghost Face, Pennywise, and Michael Myers.
If scary movies are not really your thing, you can also look for inspiration in other enjoyable films or TV shows. Sebastian Hastings from “She’s the Man” is a look that can be recreated with clothes that are likely found around your house. Napoleon Dynamite is another amazing costume from a fan-favorite movie.
Maybe you love superheroes, such as Wolverine, Invincible, and Wonder Woman. With a character like Spider-Man, you have multiple options to choose from. There are three live action actors who have played Spiderman: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. Additionally, with the animated movie “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, there have been dozens of new renditions of Spider-Man introduced.
On the other hand, if you do not want to dress up as a specific character, there are always the classics: a werewolf, vampire, or a mummy.
Looking for something a bit more catered to you? If you have black or brown hair, some wonderful ideas include: Girl from “The Bad Case of Stripes,” Jennifer Check, Betty Boop, Gogo Yubari, and Shego. If you are a guy with dark hair your options include Robin, Frankenstein, or Men in Black. However, if your hair is lighter or blonde there are still many options like: Alice from “Alice in Wonderland,” Tinkerbell, Cher, Envy, Sharpay Evans, and Hannah Montana. Options for light-haired guys would be Captain America, Thor, Shaggy, or Chucky and maybe you can find your Tiffany!
Speaking of couples, there are so many options for you and your special someone, whether that be your significant other or your best friend. A timeless idea would have to be a Disney princess and her prince, like Jasmine and Aladdin. Other iconic couples include Wilma and Barney, Gomez and Morticia, Sally and Jack, and even Sharkboy and Lava Girl. If you are willing to put in the extra effort, there is also La Muerte and Xibalba. Duos can be as broad as a pirate and a mermaid or as specific as “The Shining” twins. Remember that you can mix and match, and you do not have to follow a character exactly!
Planning on spending Halloween with your friends? Here are some group or trio ideas: Scooby Doo gang, the witches from “Hocus Pocus,” “Monster High,” “Winx Club,” “ Fantastic Four,” or “The Powerpuff Girls.” Continuing the list, there are also the Pixie Hollow fairies, Mickey Mouse Club, “Strawberry Shortcake,” or the bikers and surfers from “Teen Beach Movie.”
Though I have mainly been focusing on movie or television characters, let's not forget about the unforgettable music videos that have been made. Lady Gaga is an artist of many memorable looks. You can take so much inspiration from her, especially if you enjoy her music videos.
Marina is another singer that has a very recognizable look, especially during her “Electra Heart” persona. If these are not your style, you can think of your other favorite artists like Tyler the Creator, The Weeknd, Steve Lacy, and Chappell Roan. You can even think a few years back with Avril Lavigne, Amy Winehouse, Selena, Michael Jackson, Brittney Spears, and Justin Bieber. Of course, you can always rely on the queen of rap Nicki Minaj or the best male rapper duo Zan Mob. My personal favorite were the singers that never were, Ant and Seb.
The majority of these costumes can be found on websites such as Spirit Halloween, or you can find inspiration on Tiktok and Pinterest and find a simple way to build your costume. Regardless of your costume, make sure to have fun!
