This fall, a precious diamond is turning 20 years old! I’ll narrow down your options by saying one thing: it’s not Edward Cullen.
The book “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyers is celebrating 20 years since its initial release on Oct. 5, 2005. In honor of the book’s 20th anniversary, the “Twilight Saga” movie adaptations are set to make a sparkling comeback in theaters this fall!
The “Twilight Saga” instantly grabbed the attention of the youth after its release in the 2000s. At the time of the saga’s initial release, the film series brought in over $3 million at the box office worldwide. Even now, the series continues to have a large cultural impact amongst all age groups.
“Twilight” is about a teenage girl named Bella Swan (played by Kristin Stewart) moving from Arizona to Forks, Washington to live with her father. In Forks, she meets the mysterious Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson).
Edward tries to avoid Bella, but he fails miserably due to Bella’s persistent nagging and wanting to know more about him. She was unconditionally, and irrevocably, in love with him to say the least. Bella notices Edward acting weird and begs him to reveal the secret he is presumably hiding. Edward reluctantly admits he is a vampire. However, Bella could not care less, so they end up falling in love.
Bella’s father, Charlie, tries to warn her that Edward is nothing but trouble. Charlie is new to parenting Bella, and he tries everything he can to keep Bella away from danger. He warns her about the rumors circling the town about both Edward and his whole family. Bella, full of pure teenage angst, quickly disregards every rational comment her father makes.
Her childhood friend, Jacob Black (played by Taylor Lautner), disapproves of their new relationship. The reason for his hatred is because one, he is obsessed with Bella, and secondarily because his family is a pack of werewolves who have a deep-rooted hatred of Edward’s family.
As a result, Edward and Jacob end up fighting over Bella. Their spats are cringe-worthy and almost hard to watch, but thankfully, in the end, Bella chooses to stay with Edward (kind of).
Because Bella chose Edward, there shouldn't be a debate about who's better, right? Wrong. Fans dramatically split into two sides: Team Edward or Team Jacob.
Bella Hill, a junior at Canyon High School, explains that the concept of having teams is ridiculous because Edward was Bella’s first love from the start. Hill explained that “Bella Swan, from the beginning, always wanted Edward. She only wanted to be with Jacob when she missed Edward.”
The boys live up to the rumors spread about them; truthfully, they are nothing more than immature animals. Both boys bicker over Bella like kindergarteners fighting over their favorite crayon.
If you have yet to see any of the “Twilight” movies, now is the time to change that! “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse,” “Breaking Dawn Part 1,” and “Breaking Dawn Part 2” will all be available on the big screen from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 at Regal, AMC, and Cinemark theaters.
This event is as rare as an eclipse, and unlike Edward, it won't be around forever, so make sure to get your tickets for this special event while you can!
