There's usually a large variety of hair types and colors surrounding you, whether you’re in a restaurant, store, or maybe even your own household! Hair differs, falling into three main categories: straight, wavy, and curly.
Straight hair is often referred to as the “easiest” hair to take care of. However, some say it lacks volume and gets greasy easily. Washing your hair daily to make it soft and get rid of these extra oils is just one simple solution for those struggling with these issues.
Unlike straight hair, wavy hair is known for its “S” shape that doesn't immediately take shape at the root. Many people with wavy hair find that their hair lacks oils and can dry out easily. Using moisturizing products is crucial to keeping wavy hair healthy, and it also aids in detangling. To minimize frizz and get extra volume, hair masks are just one extremely helpful product to add into one’s hair routine.
Another common hair type is curly hair, which can include bouncy ringlets that are loose or extremely defined! However, if one is unable to maintain this hair, the hair can turn looser, and the curl pattern can become irregular. Frizz is a major enemy for curly hair! What you use in the shower can drastically change the outcome of your hair in the best way possible! Preventing dry hair can be done with moisturizing products that also repair the hair; using leave-in conditioner overnight helps a lot as well!
More tightly held and overlapped curls can mean coily hair. The two follicles of curly and coily hair are noticeable, especially if a strand is stretched out. Volume isn’t an issue in this instance; it's actually the most voluminous hair type! This type of hair requires less washing, just like curly hair, but on wash days, you would need to do deep conditioning. Porosity can change depending on how much moisture you need, with high porosity needing the most moisture and low porosity needing less.
While these are the basic hair types, everything can change depending on texture! The texture of your hair can be the same as someone with a different hair type. Fine and thinner hair is prone to be silkier but more fragile. Avoiding heavy products is a must. Medium and thicker hair tend to be confused with one another, but they have major differences. For example, thick hair can handle heat and heavy products well, while a more medium texture is much easier to style and can’t handle as much heat.
Not only does hair differ in type and texture, it also differs in color. Seeing bright colored hair isn’t an anomaly, because, in many cases, someone made a decision to dye it! Dyeing hair might seem peculiar or a waste of time to some, but that's not the case at all. Dyeing your hair can be another form of expressing yourself! Alexa Cortez, a student at Canyon says, “I dyed my hair to just try it out and after I felt more confident in myself.” Experimenting can be a hit or miss, but you could always do your best to reverse a major change in your hair.
There are a variety of routines to commit to and try out to make your hair the best it can be. No one's hair is necessarily better than another person’s hair once it gets styled and properly taken care of. Embracing your hair to express your individuality is just one way to be happier.
