Breaking: Football can return in California as early as Feb.26th after Governor Gavin Newsom eases return-to-play guidelines in the state.

After a long year of waiting, outdoor sports in California are back. It is safe to say that athletes are relieved about the news after practicing and grinding for, what used to be, an unsure season. COVID cases have been on the rise, but luckily due to the distribution of vaccines, COVID cases have been decreasing tremendously.

Students everywhere have lost their motivation due to how hopeless this season seemed. Now athletes such as football players, soccer players, and more, finally have a chance to play for their high school team again. LA County released a COVID threshold of 14 cases per 100,000 residents. On Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, LA County met that threshold with 12.3 cases per 100,000 residents and announced youth sports could resume. Things are finally looking good for athletes and it is well deserved after a terrible year caused by the pandemic.

Games for football are coming as soon as March, and there are many other sports awaiting their season starting dates! The process is being sped up in order for everything to go according to schedule. If everything does go as planned, high school football and other outdoor sports will finally be in for a treat. The most important thing is keeping everyone safe while they compete, so many rules and protocols will be placed in order to follow social distancing guidelines. With all of that aside, this season is just around the corner, so everyone better grab their popcorn and be ready to watch the competitions commence.
