Canyon track was cut short in 2020 due to the start of the COVID-19 lockdown. This year, track and many other sports were able to continue once again. With limited time to prepare, Canyon’s track team knew they had to work their hardest to be competition ready, and the track team did just that.

The track team has been killing it and winning many events throughout the shortened season! Now they are down to prelims (Pre elimination), where the best of the best in our Foothill League compete.

One senior who has done amazing the past few seasons is Austin Hernandez. Hernandez was rated the number 1 junior in the country for high jump last year and is the number one high jumper in the state currently. He also leads the league in all of his events. On top of these accomplishments, he won the California Winter State Championship in high jump. He has won multiple competitive invitationals across the country due to his hard work and dedication. Hernandez has committed to Army West Point to continue his track career.

Austin Hernandez will be greatly missed by the track team when he goes off to college, but his great positive energy and leadership have spread to the younger track stars at Canyon and will help Canyon continue to be great. So, don’t forget to come out and support our track team when you get the chance, you won’t want to miss it!
