Girls Volleyball: Ready, set, spike!
It’s been almost two years since the start of a new volleyball season due to Covid-19, and Canyon Girls Volleyball is back and better than ever! With countless covid tests each week to ensure they are eligible for games, to having practice every day after school, the team is ready to start the season!
Many of the girls are super excited to get back to playing volleyball again, especially the ones who are only involved in high school volleyball and no other outside teams.
To kick off the start of the season, their first preseason game was on August 18, 2021. The girls played away at Glendale High School and took home an exciting 4-2 win. This thrilling win gave the team a tremendous amount of motivation for their big opening league match against West Ranch High School!
The girls’ big game against West Ranch approached them faster than ever, senior Captain Naomi Philips voices, “We are all super excited, but really nervous since West Ranch has really good players.” The constant waves of nerves and excitement were running through their bodies as they fought hard during every set.
The game was a constant rollercoaster of emotions with both teams each winning a set making the third set super important.
Unfortunately, the girls weren’t able to pull out a win against West Ranch and lost 3-0. The loss was the only motivation for all these girls to work harder for the next game.
Captain Naomi Philips expresses that “Overall they were a good and competitive team and it sucks that we lost but we definitely plan on winning or taking a set off them next time.” With having this new mindset in mind the team will use this as motivation for future matches.
With a few wins under the team’s belt and more games to come, the girls are excited, determined, and ready for a great season!
