A very debatable question during parenthood is: should you allow your child to have unsupervised access to the internet? A large number of people have a laidback point of view and think that children should have the freedom to explore the internet on their own, but others believe that you should limit your child’s internet access to protect them.

Children should not be exposed to the internet because they are young and could learn things that are not appropriate for their age. An excellent example could be foul language. Elana Pearl from KidsHealth explains reasons why it is unsafe for children, saying, “Online access also comes with risks, like inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and online predators.”

In recent years, the majority of teenagers are learning curse words through the internet. This could be from listening to a song or reading a rude comment. The possibilities are infinite.

Not just that, but you can also learn bad behavior.

These behaviors could be through the influence of big creators on apps which do a lot of questionable actions for more views. Children are often very gullible, and they will do things they hear on the internet. Kids do not think twice about their actions and will not think of possible consequences.

Some parents disagree and think all of this is just a stretch. They might argue that those beliefs are over dramatic, and children should be allowed to find their own interests on the internet.

Pearl also supports this idea and explains, “The internet can be wonderful for kids. They can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other kids, and play interactive games.”

Since the internet has a wide range of people and things, kids could dream of living in France because they saw someone do a vlog in France. Then, next thing you know, your child knows how to say hello in French. Bonjour!

On the internet, you can also find new hobbies. This is because the internet is an excellent place to show your hobby and teach it to others.

Kids could learn a lot on the internet. For example, you could study math.

YouTube, a big platform on the internet, has many videos about school subjects, including many math problems, where creators will teach you in case you are struggling. Children should have access to these videos because sometimes kids need a slower paced way to be taught.

You could easily find someone who teaches in a way that better supports your learning needs on YouTube compared to at school because the teachers might not understand or have the time to help.

Every parent has their own parenting tactics, so the world will never come to a point where they all agree on whether internet access should be restricted or not. This might have given you an idea of what you might do if you have your own kids one day, but this topic stays controversial for now.
