Universal Studios Hollywood is opening its newest section of the park on Feb 17, 2023.

When thinking of Universal Studios attractions, some that may come to mind are ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™’, ‘Springfield U.S.A,’ ‘Jurassic World,’ ‘Studio Tour Plaza,’ and others. Now, a new world is going to be open to the public with Universal Studios Hollywood opening its newest section of the park called ‘Super Nintendo World™’ on Feb. 17, 2023, but what can be expected from these new attractions?

The new section of the park is designed in the image of the popular franchise, ‘Nintendo,’ and more specifically the ‘Super Mario Bros’ videogame, with game-inspired rides, cafes, merchandise, and an interactive element around these attractions.

Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge

In this new 4-D ride, riders are able to battle against Team Bowser alongside Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach as they collect coins through courses underwater and in the clouds. This ride uses technology that allows riders to ride in groups or alone as they use customized 3-D glasses to view the screens found around the track.

As riders make their way to the line, they walk through Bowser’s castle that features the go-kart uniforms of the Mario team, medallions, Bowser’s plan to defeat the team on the track, the prized Golden Cup, other known obstacles and foes, and a giant statue of the infamous villain himself.

Toadstool Cafe™

If guests want to indulge in delicious mushroom kingdom cuisine, then they can stop by Toadstool Cafe™ in the park. With delicious dishes served by Chef Toad, guests are able to enjoy their meals as they view the beautiful scenery of the Mushroom Kingdom outside the cafe windows.

The cafe also accommodates people who are vegan or gluten intolerant.

Character Meets

Guests will be able to meet characters such as Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. They can snap a picture with their favorite character to remember their experience. Mario and Luigi can be found around the park, specifically around the entrance by the classic green pipes, while Princess Peach can be found at her gazebo near the Mushroom Kingdom.

1-Up Factory

Guests can purchase merchandise such as stuffed toys, key chains, and outfits at the 1-Up Factory to remember their experience at the park.

Power-Up Bands™

Power-Up Bands™ allow guests to interact with different aspects of the world from the rides, to challenges found around the land.

These bands can be found and purchased in the Character Shop in the lower lot or in the 1-Up Factory™ and Power-Up Band™ Kiosks both found in Super Nintendo World™. Each band represents characters such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad, and Yoshi.

Once guests purchase their band, they can open the Universal Studios Hollywood app and scan the QR code on the band to begin their adventure. They can interact with Bowser’s Challenge by tapping their band to the steering wheel. This allows them to keep track of the amount of points they earn while riding.

One of the bigger things guests can interact with is the Key Challenge that they can play for a chance to unlock a final challenge against Bowser Jr. in ‘Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown’ by unlocking at least three of the four keys. According to the Universal Studios Hollywood website, these challenges can be found around the land at places such as, “Goomba Crazy Crank, Koopa Troopa POWer Punch, Piranha Plant Nap Mishap, Thwomp Panel Panic.”

Guests can keep track of their scores by going to checkpoints found across the land or on the app.

So, what are you waiting for? Come check out the newest addition to Universal Studios Hollywood, Super Nintendo World™ when it opens on Feb. 17, 2023.
