It all started when Walt Disney’s studio, Laugh-O-Gram, went bankrupt in 1923. Later that same year, he would move to LA and sell his first short film titled “Alice’s Wonderland” and sign a contract with M.J. Winkler to produce a collection of Alice comedies. These comedies would later open his film studio, Walt Disney Pictures.
In the year 1928, after the success of his Alice comedies, Disney began working on his creation, “Steamboat Willie.” In this, the world would be introduced to the one and only Mickey Mouse.
Although Mickey wasn’t Disney’s first creation, he became one of the most recognizable cartoon figures in the history of animation and cartoon creation. In later years, Mickey’s ears became the company symbol. “The Mickey Mouse Club” TV show would debut in 1955, the same year Disneyland opened. Surprisingly, the original mysterious voice behind the adorable mouse was actually Walt Disney himself.
Nine years later, Disney would create yet another hit titled “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” which launched before Christmas in 1937. This would be a turning point in history for film production and Walt Disney. It showed how a man who originally wrote sketches and cartoon characters flourished and created the first full-length feature film, which was Disney’s first animated film.
Disney’s life sadly ended in 1966, but his legacy continues to grow today. Disney is now worth 148.59 billion dollars, has 12 Disney parks located all over the world, and has debuted over 40 hit movies since Walt Disney’s death.
