The Canyon High School’s Cross Country season has finally started. The first race was the Gaucho Invite in Santa Barbara on Sept. 2, 2023. Since the start of the season, Cross Country has had four meets. They just participated in our first league race on Sept. 23, 2023 at College of the Canyons (COC).
The first race of the day was Boys Fs 3 Mile. The first boy to finish the race, coming in at fifth place, was Maxiums Ramirez with a time of 17:11.30. The next race was the Girls Fs 3 mile. Destiny Yoc came in fourth place, with her final time being 21:34.80.
Varsity Boys were next. Erick Leal was the first boy to finish the race, coming in at second place with a time of 15:22.00. Next, Cynthia Herrera won the Varsity Girls race, finishing at 19:00.00. The last two races of the day were the JV Boys and the JV Girls. Jerimiah Torres came in eighth place at 17:38.00 for the boys, and Raquel Revilla came in third place at 22:43.70 for the girls.
Ruby Salazar raced for the JV Girls, placing 11th with a time of 23:41.10. When asked what she thinks she could have done better during her race, Salazar explained, “My start was something that could’ve been better. I should have gotten out a little faster because I got stuck behind some girls, and it was hard to get around the big group.”
All the teams that were at League Meet 1 did their absolute best and did amazing, so great job to all the teams that participated!
Some of the hardest parts of the race were the uphills, but everyone pushed through and did great. Congratulations to Cynthia Herrera for winning the Varsity Girls race!
There was also a memorial set up at the race for Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer. Clinkunbroomer went to West Ranch High School, where he raced for the Cross Country team there. Everyone sent their condolences to his family and all his loved ones. It was a wonderful dedication from everyone who participated in the race.
Great job to all the schools!
