Coach Mike Tomlin has been a coach for the Steelers since 2007 and has been with them ever since. Coach Tomlin was born on March 15, 1972 and is currently 51 years old.
Tomlin grew up in Hampton, Virginia where he attended Denbigh High School. After graduating high school, he attended William and Mary for college.
While at William and Mary, Tomlin was a successful three year starter as a wide receiver. He finished his career with 101 receptions for 2,054 yards and 20 TD catches.
Following his career as a player, Tomlin went on to coach and was hired by Arkansas State University in 1997. At Arkansas, he coached their defensive backs. He stayed there for two seasons before being hired as defensive backs coach by the University of Cincinnati.
He later joined the Steelers on Jan. 22, 2007 as one of the youngest head coaches in the NFL. He’s never been a head coach for any other team in the NFL and has stuck with the Steelers ever since, as the Steelers do not want to give up such an amazing coach.
At the age 36, Tomlin became the youngest head coach to win the Super Bowl. He got the Steelers a ring in Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 with a score of 27-23.
Tomlin is the best coach because he’s never had a losing season. He always knows how to come up on top. The Steelers have won 168-96-2 (.635) and in the postseason 8-9, in his Career 176-105-2.
Although Tomlin has helped the Steelers become very successful, there have been some recent changes to the coaching team that may change the team more. The Steelers recently got a new offensive coach.
The last time the Steelers let a coach go was in 1941, but players were fed up with Matt Canada calling the plays. During the first game without Canada, the Steelers went for 400 yards. The last time the team went for 400 yards was in 2021.
With this turn around, the Steelers are sure to see even more wins, and Tomlin can probably win coach of the year.
