Damar Hamlin is a football player who is slowly returning back to his team, the Buffalo Bills. Hamlin suffered a tragic incident about 10 months ago during a nationally televised game. He is 25 years old and went into cardiac arrest during a game against the Bengals on “Monday Night Football.”
Apparently, what caused this was “commotio cordis,” a condition where someone has an abnormal heart rhythm when an object hits the chest directly over the heart during a heartbeat. Hamlin was then rushed to the hospital in bad condition, but recently he has been cleared to play football again.
Hamlin has thanked and appreciated all the Bills’ medical team and first responders in Cincinnati where he was admitted. He also started a charitable foundation to award scholarships to children in need in Cincinnati.
On Oct. 1, 2023, Hamlin played in his first game. The Bills won 48-20 against the Miami Dolphins. This was Hamlin’s first game back from his incident on Jan. 2, 2023. Before playing in his first game back, Hamlin became emotional seeing the field he nearly died on. “Head Clear. Blessed & Highly Favored. Thank You,” Hamlin said on social media alongside a short clip of his time on the grass.
When Hamlin and the Bills played against the Bengals recently, the Bengals players shook Hamlin’s hand before the game. After the game, Hamlin announced scholarships named after the 10 medical experts who brought him back to life. Overall, Damar Hamlin is very thankful for the people who saved him and is happy that he is slowly coming back to football.
