The late Matthew Perry had a tremendous impact on a whole generation as his character Chandler Bing in the hit series “Friends” from the 90’s. The whole “Friends” cast who had grown close after filming for years, the production team, and everyone who has experienced the heart-warming show have been affected by Perry’s death.
Perry passed away Oct. 28, 2023 from drowning in his jacuzzi. As a recovering drug addict, the Los Angeles Police Department searched the house for drugs, but they couldn’t find any that were not prescription-based. While it could take months to report a toxicology report, fans and family of Matthew Perry are upset by his death, regardless of the cause.
Regarded as a brilliant and hilarious actor, and a nice guy overall, many are feeling the pain of his loss. “Friends” co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane both expressed their sadness in the following statement, saying, “We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives.“
Perry’s parents also released a statement, stating, “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.”
Many others have taken to interviews and social media platforms to express their sadness. Tributes were made and posts created, such as from Maggie Wheeler Friends, who played Janice Hostein in “Friends,” Chandler’s on and off girlfriend.
Perry had an interview with The Los Angeles Times in April where he said that he wants to be remembered as “a guy who lived life, loved well, lived well and helped people. That running into me was a good thing, and not something bad.” Let’s collectively agree to remember Matthew Perry as he would have liked: a person with a life well lived.
