With the fall season approaching, the National Football League (NFL) organization has posted this season’s official games schedule, and fans are excited to know that the 2024 season is coming to a start.
The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas Chiefs are set to be the season openers, playing their first game on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Many other teams will also kick off their season during week one.
The NFL season consists of 18 weeks and a total of 272 games, starting in September and ending in January. During these times, players have to undergo intensive training camps, spend time away from family, and travel from city to city. After the regular season, the remaining teams will face off during playoff season, all fighting for a spot to play at the Super Bowl, and hopefully becoming the 2025 Super Bowl Champions.
Many fans are excited and pumped to start this new season, but with a new season comes new rules. One rule that will be removed is the Hip-Drop Tackle. This is when a defender grabs/wraps up a ball carrier and puts his whole body weight onto the ball carrier, twisting/rotating his hips, causing them to fall.
The NFL has also decided to adjust kickoff guidelines by adding a new rule that is said to bring back the excitement of kickoff returns and drop in touchbacks that are caused from confusion on an odd play that ends up as a rare safety. Many wonder if this new rule will spark heated games starting week one.
