Although many may not be aware, NFL teams the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers rarely play one another. This is because the Pittsburgh Steelers are an American Football Conference (AFC) team, and the Dallas Cowboys are a National Football Conference (NFC) team.
These conferences are what tend to separate the two teams, hence why these teams don’t often get to play against each other. The two teams typically meet at each other’s home stadium once every four years. Other chances they might meet again may include during playoffs or at the Super Bowl.
Even though the Cowboys and Steelers aren’t division rivals, their rivalry is among the most legendary in NFL history. On Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, the Cowboys and Steelers played each other for the first time since Nov. 6, 2020. The Cowboys beat the Steelers with their star quarterback Dak Prescott throwing a touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game, bringing the score to 20-17.
As of right now, the Cowboys are ahead in the rivalry with a total of 18 wins, and the Steelers with 16 wins. This rivalry will likely continue throughout the years and become more intense, exciting their large fan bases even more.
With all their history, Super Bowl confrontations, and the stature of both teams, every Cowboys vs Steelers game feels significant even though their rivalry isn’t as common as some other NFL rivalries. Fans hope to see more of this rivalry, and hopefully they get to play each other again during playoffs and the Super Bowl.
