With the 2024 school season in full swing, the hype for fall sports has been exponentially increasing by the day. The basketball season is just around the corner, and with over thirteen championships under the Girls Varsity team’s belt, there is an air of excitement to see how the upcoming season plays out!
Junior Varsity Girls Basketball is not to be ignored, though. In the 2023-24 season, the Canyon Girls JV team was ranked number 2 in the league after the end of the season, losing only two games against Valencia’s team.
In preparation for the season’s start this year, the girls have been practicing against the Frosh Boys. “It’s been helping a lot with our stamina and overall skill,” Jodie, a point guard and shooting guard on the team, explained.
The girls have been excessively training to make up for their lack of players; there’s only seven girls playing on JV this year. “Warmups have been more intense to make up for it. We’ve been doing a lot of conditioning since it’s really important that we are able to run and play for a lot longer,” Jodie continued.
Even with all of the obstacles in the way, the girls are hopeful that they’ll make a great season out of it. Jodie further explained, “We’re hoping to be more aggressive and active on the court this year.”
With how hard they’ve been working, there is no doubt that they will have an amazing outcome! We wish our Girls Basketball team the best of luck!
