The Champions League is the biggest international soccer tournament in Europe, where teams from all the top European leagues compete for the top spot and the title of Champions League winners.
The Round of 16 for the 2025 Champions League is now complete, with eight out of the 16 teams advancing to the next round. The advancing teams were Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan.
Out of all the eight matchups that happened in the Round of 16, the most interesting were PSV Eindmund versus Arsenal, Real Madrid versus Atlético Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain versus Liverpool.
PSV versus Arsenal was surprising to many fans, as Arsenal scored seven goals in the first game, the most goals scored so far in this year's tournament.
The Real Madrid versus Atlético Madrid match up was called “El Derbi Madrileño” in Spain, so many fans were interested to see the outcome. It did not disappoint. After both games played, it was tied, so they went to shoot penalties where Real Madrid came out on top and advanced.
The Paris Saint-Germain versus Liverpool matchup shocked many. During the group stages of the Champions League, Liverpool was considered the team with the highest chances of winning, and they were at the top of the group table with the most points. However, in the first game against Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool struggled and was only able to win after 87 minutes, when Harvey Elliott scored. Liverpool only managed to shoot twice within the first game, which caused some people to call the win lucky and undeserved.
In the second game, PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) kept up the pressure and was able to score, tying the game 1-1. Because of the tie, the game went to penalties, where Liverpool fumbled and missed two penalties, leading to their loss.
As the Quarter Finals start up, many fans are excited to see their teams continuing to advance to the final, and others are defeated as their team loses and gets knocked out of the tournament.
