The Canyon Cowboys have done it once again as the 2025 track season draws to a close! The boys and girls Canyon track teams won the 2025 Foothill League title, which Canyon has done for the third consecutive year. According to Coach George Velarde, this marks “our 26th league title for the boys and our 15th league title for the girls!”
On April 17, 2025, the Canyon Cowboys participated in the meet, held at College of the Canyons. Both teams were eager to establish their position and demonstrate their season-long diligence.
The Varsity Girls performed incredibly well at the meet, earning an outstanding 170 points, which was almost 60 points more than Golden Valley, the runners-up. This team's victory was greatly enhanced by the girls' team work and dedication.
One runner that stood out was Lanai Gant, a senior runner at Canyon. Her records were outstanding with a first place victory in the 100-meter race as well as another first place win in the 200-meter race. Additionally, Gant won the 4×100 with Emoni Wright, Lyric Scott, and Alaya Graves-Hogains. Gant’s passion for running as well as all the hard work that she and the rest of the team puts into these races clearly showed throughout the event.
The Varsity Boys squad was on fire, as they did a fantastic job as well. They scored 139 points altogether, which was 51 more points than Castaic High who took second place!
Jordehn Gammage, an exceptional runner, led the team to significant points with a decisive victory in the 300-meter hurdles and first place in the 110-meter hurdles. Although Gammage did an amazing job, he was not the only star of the show.
Senior Nathan Hernadez took first place in the pole vault as he hit 15 feet, which was about 3 feet higher than the runner-up. With all these high scores, Canyon was able to earn high scores and secure their title once again.
In light of everything mentioned, the CIF preliminary meeting is scheduled for May 10 at College of the Canyons, and Canyon is prepared to attend. Canyon Track is expected to bring the heat once again and advance to the League Finals that are set to take place on Thursday, May 31.
We wish all of the track athletes the best of luck and can’t wait to see the amazing things they will do. Go Cowboys!
