Since the beginning of September, the JV Girls Tennis Team has been playing non-stop every week against multiple schools in Santa Clarita. Already halfway through the season, these girls have shown their hard work and hours of practice in every match they play.
Their first game took place on Sept. 2 on Canyon’s tennis courts right after school, where they had a match against Hart High School. This was followed by games against Saugus on Sept. 4 and West Ranch on Sept. 9 played at Canyon High School and West Ranch High School respectively.
Finally, the week after, on Sept. 16 and 18, two more matches took place at our school. In the first game, JV won against Golden Valley by a close score of 10-8! Two days later, Valencia High School also competed against Canyon.
One of the latest games was on Sept. 25 where, after playing a match against Castaic at home, JV ended up successfully winning the game! Because of their accomplishment, the girls ended up going on a trip to Toppers Pizza to celebrate.
In addition to the exciting feeling when winning, there are many reasons why the girls on the team play. Emily Bigit, a JV tennis player shared, “I would definitely recommend tennis to someone else because it's a very competitive sport while also being a great place to make new connections with others.”
JV’s last game taking place at Canyon High School will be on Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. against West Ranch, so make sure to come and support our girls!
A couple of weeks after the JV Season started, the frosh team also stepped on the court, playing 4 games so far against Castaic and Buckley.
“My favorite part about the season has been all the games we all have been playing,” said Alexis Sowter, a freshman tennis player. “I think tennis is a very fun sport and that everyone on the team is wonderful,” she explained.
All of the freshman team's remaining games will be at 3 p.m. on Canyon’s tennis courts, so everyone is welcome to stop by and watch them play.
For more information about upcoming tennis games and other sports, you can visit Canyon High School’s website and click on “Athletics” followed by “This Week in Sports.” There, you can check out the date and time of sports events taking place at school.
We ultimately wish luck to our JV and Freshman teams as they prepare for the remaining half of the season. It is clear that they are doing an outstanding job and have created a wonderful community.
Go Cowboys!
