There are not many times you come across a Foothill League M.V.P. As a 3-year varsity player, junior point guard Aaliyah Garcia has shown her greatness by being named player of the year for the 2021-2022 girls’ basketball season.

Garcia has been hooping for 10 years which has led to her going off during the entire season. She has played for 3 years on varsity and has only gone up since then. She averages 13 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Garcia rarely leaves the court as she leads her team to victory. Her skilled ability to score when the team needs buckets is one of the many reasons she’s the player of the year.

Her highest point game was 24 against Valley View, where she showed off what she had in her bag. This all-league M.V.P. balled out and showed what it takes to be extraordinary. Everyone has someone they look up to and idolize. Garcia looks up to Kobe Bryant and models herself off his mamba mentality. She says, “Kobe has always inspired me growing up. His mindset has shown me that with hard work and determination I can be anything I want in life.”

Garcia claims she owes some of her glory to her teammates who helped her during their successful season, where they won league and went deep into playoffs. Garcia has set the bar high for many girls basketball athletes looking to stand out. Her work here at Canyon is not finished yet as she has one more year to euro past all the competition and shine again.
