“Arcane: League of Legends” was a massive hit as soon as Riot Games announced it in late 2019. Though based off of the already massively popular online game “League of Legends,” the show captured a massive audience of previous game-players and casual watchers alike with its Spiderverse-esque style of animation and enticing storytelling.
The show has reached an incredible amount of milestones since its release. Season 2 of “Arcane,” which premiered its first act on Nov. 9, 2024, reached number one on Netflix in over 60 countries. It’s no surprise that the show smashed the charts, seeing as it had a staggering budget of $250 million, which made it the most expensive animated series ever.
“Arcane” premiered in three different acts. Act 1 premiered on Nov. 9, Act 2 on Nov. 16, and the final act, Act 3, on Nov. 23, commencing both the season and the entirety of the series. Much to the dismay of the audience, the show ended on a cliffhanger with—spoilers ahead— Jinx succumbing to the least optimal fate: death.
There is speculation from fans on whether or not she truly died, which has been addressed by creators. Ella Purnell, the voice behind Jinx, stated herself in an interview that it’s being left “up to interpretation.” There was no denial nor confirmation.
Though many fans have been left longing for more of the beloved series, the creators and animation studio anticipate taking things in a different direction. They are planning for different spin-off series based on both the animated series and the game, which are yet to be announced. Fans will be able to look forward to a possible wildcard appearance from Jinx or any new surprises the creators may have in store!
