First aired on Sept. 23, 2005, this story follows main character Victor Van Dort—whose family-owned business recently came into money—as he enters an arranged marriage with Victoria Everglot, a poor aristocrat hoping to solve her parents’ impending bankruptcy.
Because Victor is nervous about saying his vows, he flees into the nearby forest to calm his racing mind and rehearse what he plans to say. Unknowingly, after saying his final words, he places the ring on a branch, which turns out to be the skeletal finger of a deceased bride!
Emily, the deceased bride, believes that Victor has married her and drags him down to the Land of the Dead. This land is a transitional place where those who have died unexpectedly rest until their final unresolved issues have been worked out. Here they meet quirky characters and eccentric individuals as Victor tries to make his way back to his soon-to-be wife.
In the midst of all this, Lord Barkis Bittern, who is a wealthy and greedy aristocrat, asks for Victoria’s hand in marriage, but only if Victor doesn't return from the Land of the Dead by dawn of the next morning. Bittern believes that her family is rich, which is his only motive for the marriage. As the plot moves forward, there are many twists and turns that help build anticipation and leave watchers wanting more.
“Corpse Bride’s” attention-grabbing storyline, paired with director/actor Tim Burton’s unique stop-motion animation allowed it to be an absolute hit, making $118 million from theater sales and $40 million from DVD sales!
On the topic of DVDs, a new 4k Ultra HD special edition of this film was released in honor of this special anniversary. Not only is it sold in local stores like Target and Walmart, but it is also available online on Amazon’s website and select movie-related stores such as Blu-ray!
