“The Amazing Digital Circus” (“TADC”) is one of the “most jaw-dropping, heart-stopping, mind-bending paraphernalia you’ve ever laid your eyes upon!” It’s a “surreal, psychological comedy about a bunch of cute cartoon characters that hate their lives and want to leave.”
The show debuted in October 2023 and follows Pomni who becomes trapped with five other humans in a virtual reality space where they are subjected to wacky adventures created by an artificial intelligence called Caine. The show was created by Gooseworx, who is notably the writer as well.
The show was produced by Glitch Productions, which was founded in 2017 by brothers Kevin and Luke Lerdwichagul. They had one goal with creating their studio—- “change the way the west creates teen and young adult animation.” With hundreds of global fans, the industry is completely self-funded and independent. They are determined to prove “that indie animation is at the forefront of this industry.”
Now, with eight shows under their belt, including latest hits “Lackadaisy,” “Gameoverse,” “Knights of Guinevere,” and “The Gaslight District,” Glitch is proving themselves right. Glitch Productions hosts GlitchX, which is “an opportunity for indie creators to show off big animated projects they are working on, or have released.” Some existing projects include “Godspeed,” “Hexthens,” and so many more.
Glitch also started their own merch company FinalFinal Project, believing that, “in the ever-growing world of indie animation, merchandise is the best way for an audience to support the artists they love.”
“TADC” single-handedly made indie animation history; the show not only amassed 600+ million lifetime views but also gained multiple licensees with retailers, including Hot Topic, Good Smile Company, and a Japan presence that provides Crane games and pop-up shops. With the show's incredible mainstream impact, Netflix signed a licensing deal with Glitch, where they are “still independently funding everything, [while still holding] get full control of the show, and [ensuring] episodes will continue to ALWAYS come out on YouTube first.”
That isn’t all the love that “The Amazing Digital Circus” is allowed to give. The grand finale of the show, episode 9, is set to release on June 19, 2026 to YouTube and Netflix. However, with the release of this date and the trailer for episode 9, it will also be played in theaters, starting on June 4! “The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act” combines episode 8 with the new hour-long episode 9 for fans to see.
Since this announcement, more showings have popped up leading up to the YouTube release. It has started a controversy, which shows how well Glitch is sticking to their word—-they’ll always post on YouTube first. In a statement by Kevin, one of the CEOs, he explained that “the reason we’re all pushing for this at all is because this one event has the potential to change how the entire industry views indie animation. […] It opens the door not just for us, but for many creators, many projects, and the future of original, creator-led storytelling.” He also addressed that “the two-week gap came out of a lot of back and forth. Theaters were originally asking for a minimum of a month. […] Two weeks was where we finally landed, and even that was apparently ‘unheard of’ for them.”
Personally, I cannot wait to see the end of “TADC” with my best friends in theaters along with some delicious angel fruit cake! The show has been wrongfully viewed as brain-rot on the internet because of its mainstream presence. In reality, “TADC” does a remarkably good job at representing different kinds of coping mechanisms and trauma whilst maintaining a slowly deteriorating happy and comedic tone. My relationship with artificial intelligence is admittedly more negative, but seeing it come to life the way it did in the show through Caine and his interactions with the other main characters can really get your mind thinking.
The story is well-developed by sharing the spotlight equally with the rest of the cast. From the pilot to the latest episode, you can see the rendering and animation improve as Bubble (Caine’s AI assistant) begins to look more like an actual bubble. The lore gets super deep, and the different characters foil each other really well; Gangle and Zooble, for example, were an unexpected duo, but I'm sure many people cannot wait to see more of them.
The show has many extremely talented voice actors such as Micheal Kovach as Jax, Sean Chiplock as Kinger, and Amanda Hufford as Ragatha. Finding out that a couple of the lines were from Elsie Lovelock was also a surprise to see in the outro credits.
“The Amazing Digital Circus” and Glitch Productions are taking huge steps toward crushing the stereotypes of indie animation. As episode 9 comes closer, I, along with millions of Glitch’s fans, am extremely excited to see how Glitch will finish our beloved characters’ story.
If you’re interested in getting tickets to the epic finale, you can find a couple showings at some of Santa Clarita’s very own theaters and their websites. To watch the show on YouTube, you can click here, or go to Glitch Production’s channel.
