Kevin Torres is a young artist here at Canyon High School who identically drew the portrait of artist Chuck Close, leaving almost no room to tell the difference between the photo and his drawing.

When assigned to create a detailed portrait of an artist using value and shading techniques for his Art 1B class, Kevin absolutely nailed it. Using a grid to make his drawing more accurate it took Kevin approximately two weeks to complete it.

Seeing characters from games and cartoons is what got Kevin into drawing. He was so “fascinated and intrigued by how the artist drew them” that from there on he started to create some characters of his own.

When he’s not drawing he likes to stretch and exercise because “it’s important to take care of my health,” he said. Kevin also enjoys playing the piano, listening to music, and playing games. Though, leaving very little room to do those things as he mainly spends his time drawing.

“I like art because there is no right or wrong answer,” Kevin says. He thinks it is a great way for someone to be able to express themselves, and when stressed, it’s also a good way to relive it.

With the talented skills that Kevin has, there’s no doubt that he has a big future ahead of him!
