Since Covid began, there have been so many businesses that have taken a big hit from the pandemic. Many places have had to close their doors or shut down, including the ice rink. As they prepared to shut down the ice, Santa Clarita’s people banded together in hopes of saving it.

They pulled all the strings they could, and using all the resources they had, worked together and in the end opened up The Cube ice rink on April 12, 2021. The people who loved being on the ice did their part in saving the rink which made opening day extra special.

The team mentioned that the most responsible for this reopening is the Los Angeles Kings hockey team who helped tie together the ice rink and are going to be the ones managing the rink. So as soon as the team could, they got back on the ice and are hoping many more people will join soon.

Many people have always loved the ice rink, but I don’t think people truly realized this love until the threat of the shutdown. The community of people who live their lives on the ice rallied together and that’s the real thing that got the rink reopened.

Now everyone can enjoy the cold ice, even in California’s hot summer weather. It’s also helpful in keeping kids and teens active throughout the pandemic when getting out is hard. Having an ice rink may not mean much to some people, but to others it’s what brings them joy.

So the goal of the ice rink is to bring more and more people to the ice and maybe even find their love for it. This is definitely a tremendous win for the community and one that we were lucky to have.
