This year, the Canyon Theatre Guild is celebrating 50 years of live theatre. The Guild is a non-profit arts organization where actors volunteer to perform. It is located on Main Street in Newhall, and even though it’s a small building, it’s cute and comfy.
Ticket prices vary depending on age, but they are reasonable for the amazing shows you get to see. The prices for the current shows are $15 for students, $18 for seniors, and $20 for adults.
Canyon Theatre Guild recently performed the shows “Wait Until Dark” and “Boeing Boeing.” During spring break I had the opportunity to go and watch both of these shows.
The first play that I watched was “Wait Until Dark.” This was an exciting play to watch, and it had me on the edge of my seat. The play focuses on a blind woman named Susan Hendrix, who “is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment” and discovers that her blindness was really her biggest advantage to defeating the trio of men.
“Wait Until Dark” was definitely one of my favorite performances, and the actors did a phenomenal job. The story has many surprises and the plot twists that will keep you watching for what happens next. I would highly recommend this if you like thrillers or mysteries, as well as if you enjoy a smaller, more private venue.
Lastly, the play “Boeing Boeing” was a comedy that never had a dull moment. The crowd varied in age, and everyone was able to have a good laugh. The play takes place in 1960s France where the main character was a man who had three flight attendant girlfriends. He keeps “one up, one down, and one pending,” but one day they all show up unexpectedly. He must juggle all three girlfriends and make sure they don’t find out about each other. All this happens while his American friend gets stuck in the middle and must help him.
I greatly enjoyed this comedy, and it was a laugh from beginning to end. The actors of this play were all very kind, took pictures with fans, and signed playbills after the play.
If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a weekend and enjoy live theatre, make sure to stop by and see a show at the Guild!
