It’s been about two years since “Jurassic World Dominion” released in theaters, and according to some reviews, it didn’t deliver in a way that the fans were expecting. After the apparent disappointment with “Dominion,” there could be a redemption arc for the franchise with a possible upcoming film.

There have been some rumors about a possible continuation of the franchise, though it is hard to imagine where the series could go. “Dominion” seemed to wrap up some plot points, so it is hard to see what threat there could be to lead into the new installment. Granted, it is a little concerning that they are planning to continue this series so soon. So far, the planned release date for the movie is July 2, 2025, though this is subject to change because it was recently announced in January of this year.

So far, the only information that we have about the cast is that Scarlett Johansson is in talks for the leading role, which could mean that this movie is meant to be separate from the others while still following the same universe’s plot. Another star who is rumored to be in the main cast is Dev Patel who played Danny Boyle in “Slumdog Millionaire.” Because there is currently no news of Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, DeWanda Wise, Sam Neil, Laura Dern, or Jeff Goldblum returning for their respective roles, we can expect to be following a brand new group in whatever challenges they may face.

There is also news that producers Patrick Cowley and Frank Marshall, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and screenwriter David Koepp, who all worked on the first two Jurassic Park movies, will return to work on this new movie. Paleontologists Steve Brusatte and Jack Horner are also returning to help with the set of the movie to help it seem more realistic to where the dinosaurs would live in the modern world.

There are some ideas on what the movie could be about and what it could mean for the rest of the franchise. One popular idea is that this movie will possibly reboot the first one by following Michael Crichton’s original novel, going for more of a chilling and pessimistic tale of corporate greed, or it could be written from an entirely new perspective of the events that have already occurred in the previous movies.

Another idea that has come up in recent weeks is that the movie will introduce the idea of a hybrid human-dinosaur serum that could completely change what fans knew about the science behind the dinosaurs. While this idea seems like less of a possibility, it’s an interesting take on what that could look like and what the protagonists will have to go through to stop the possible antagonist from using it.

While there is currently no other news on what this movie might look like or be about, it is clear that the “Jurassic” franchise isn’t over yet and will possibly continue in coming years. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up for the audience to decide, so for now we just have to wait and see.
