The class of 2026’s Senior BBQ was held during lunch in the Senior Quad on Oct. 23, 2025. The cheerful vibes were contagious, and speaking from my own experience, my friends and I had a blast!
One of the key elements of this Senior BBQ was the painted theme in the quad. This year, painting the senior quad took longer in comparison to past years, but the design was still cute and matched the senior theme: “Cars.” The quad had the Piston Cup along with the classic characters like Lightning McQueen and Mater. Seniors were able to enjoy these paintings as they ate their lunch.
Although the usual food catering is The Habit Grill, this year ASB mixed it up with In-N-Out. My peers had mixed feelings about the food—some students had been looking forward to having The Habit like the years prior, while others were pleasantly surprised by the classic In-N-Out cheeseburger. Personally, I felt that the In-N-Out catering was wonderful.
Unfortunately, some seniors spent a lot of time lining up for the BBQ. Some students did not get their food until the very end of lunch. Next year, it would be nice to extend the Senior BBQ into part of sixth period and have students excused for that time frame to allow all students to fully enjoy this exciting senior event with their friends.
Overall, this issue pales in comparison to the sheer fun of the event—for me, it cemented the fact that I’m now a senior, and the importance of valuing every moment.
When I asked my fellow senior Vianney Segovia about her experience, she stated, “I was able to have lunch with some of my best friends and, quite literally, leave a mark in the place where I’ve spent the last four years learning—we got another chance to realize we are growing up, and moments like that aren’t gonna happen as frequently. It gave the BBQ a meaning and purpose.”
Segovia’s sentiments also capture how I felt in the sense that the Senior BBQ represents the experiences and growth made from freshman year to senior year. Writing on the quad was an act of leaving our mark in our high school, creating a special moment to recognize this significant point in our lives. The day after the BBQ, I went back to the quad with my friends to simply enjoy the place that symbolizes what our current seniors have accomplished.
As the class of 2026 grows closer to adulthood, it can be scary to let go of our youth, but we will always carry the lessons and memories from our childhoods with us as we grow older. So, relish the moment—if that’s not too cliche of a line!
