Every year, Canyon hosts Open House for current and incoming students, along with their parents. During Open House this year, participants were able to become familiar with the vast amount of programs Canyon has to offer and also had the chance to visit many classrooms across campus. This event gave students and parents alike an opportunity to get to know Canyon High School better.
This year’s Open House was on April 2, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. During this time, our Canyon Journalism program sold baked goods and lemonade. This bake sale, which was successful, allowed us to raise money for our website, magazine, and equipment. Clubs such as Link Crew, BSA, Z Club, SNHS, and even the Honors English program also had events going on during Open House. Opportunities like this give incoming students the ability to really learn and experience how dedicated students are to their programs.
At the beginning of the event, counselors, student athletes, and others were in the PAC discussing Canyon events for everyone to see. This was called the "Future Cowboy Welcome.” It gave everyone the opportunity to see how amazing Band is, and for anyone potentially interested in joining Band, to see what is to be expected. Canyon is extremely welcoming to new students, so this performance really showcased that. In the main gym, Color Guard and Folklórico also performed for everyone’s entertainment.
There was also a meeting for ELAC, also known as the English Learner Advisory Council. The point of this program is to help students, specifically those who are learning English or live in a home that speaks more than one language, with different services and programs to support their learning. This event was open to anyone willing to participate.
At 6 p.m. classroom visits began, which gave incoming freshmen the opportunity to become familiar with the classrooms they will spend their entire freshman year in. Being familiar with classrooms can ease those “first day fears” many freshmen face. That way, there are little to no worries about where classrooms are or how to get to them.
Overall, the Open House was a great opportunity to get to know potential teachers and become familiar with the layout of Canyon! All of the activities Canyon has to offer will not disappoint our current and future cowboys!
