Canyon’s Spring Spirit

Friday, March 27 was the final rally of the school year and the last rally for the seniors at Canyon. With that, ASB tried to go out with a bang and make sure that that rally was one to remember and celebrate. This rally’s theme was the Olympics.

As usual, this rally came with a spirit week, with each day having a fun theme. Monday was “represent your country” day! This involved wearing colors or a piece of clothing to represent students’ heritage. Tuesday was “toes out Tuesday,” meaning that students wore sandals at school, which was fitting for the unusually warm, sunny weather we were having that week. Wednesday was “meme day,” in which students dressed as their favorite and funniest memes. On Thursday, the theme was “rhyme without reason,” in which students wore things that rhymed.

Finally, on Friday, each grade dressed with their assigned colors: freshmen wore yellow, sophomores wore red, juniors wore green, and seniors wore blue. Each color lined up with the colors of the Olympics. Based on participation in each theme, you could win a $20 Visa gift card.

Additionally, on each day, there were games hosted on the outdoor stage, gym, and practice field for each grade level. These are games such as tug of war, flag football, cornhole, water balloon toss, free throws, relay race, volleyball, and capture the flag.

During the spring rally, we also saw athletes from spring semester sports play games as well as cheers from the Cheer team! The games were extremely fun and are meant to hype up the crowd. Everyone from freshmen to seniors were so excited to watch these activities. In past years, we had seen athletes fighting each other with balloons, team building games, etc. Every time a team wins, they get bragging rights and support from the crowd.

Overall, Canyon rallies never disappoint and are always filled with tons of laughs, shouts, and participation from students, making it an event to remember. As a senior, I am disappointed that this is my final rally at Canyon, but I am excited that I was able to participate in such an exciting event.

Jenna Eke is a staff writer for The Pony Express at Canyon High School. Currently, she is a senior, and this is her first year with the journalism program. She hopes to not only improve and write amazing pieces, but make some good friends as well. She hopes to write articles about anything pop culture and opinion pieces. She is interested in anything DC, she likes the show “Invincible,” and her favorite movie/show genre are rom-coms. She also likes to play video games of every type, but her favorite is “Fortnite.” In addition to shows and movies, Jenna likes to listen to music. Some of her favorite artists include Steve Lacy, Frank Ocean, and Tyler, The Creator.

Cindy Orozco, Staff Writer

This is Cindy Orozco’s first year in Canyon Journalism, and she currently serves as a staff writer. She is a sophomore at Canyon High School and is involved in other programs such as ASB and Show Choir. She enjoys expressing herself through her work, whether it be on stage, or in her articles. She hopes to write opinion pieces for The Pony Express, along with articles focused on popular arts and entertainment at Canyon High School. Outside of school, her main hobbies include crochet and embroidery. She loves crocheting all sorts of things and embroidering on anything possible. Cindy is always in search of new crafts, no matter how tedious. Besides creating art, she also enjoys listening to music, going on walks, and reading.
