Congratulations to Canyon High School for performing wonderfully on the CASSPP and being recognized as a California Distinguished School! In order to commemorate this event, Principal Holcombe gave the students a celebratory sweet treat.
From April 14 to April 17, ASB passed out donuts to ninth through twelfth graders during brunch at the senior quad. The experience was a good way to honor the achievements of all Canyon students; however, the senior and staff BBQ was special for the soon-graduating class.
Many classes got let out earlier during fourth period to start lining up for their food. The school made sure to put effort in giving all seniors the opportunity to enjoy this special lunch.
On the upper field, a system of three line stations were set up for students to get a bite to eat at lunch. Students got the option to choose between hotdogs and hamburgers with their own selection of toppings! Mr. Ingino was generous enough to barbeque for everyone, staff members helped get the food passed out, and ASB helped set up and clean up. Without everyone's help, this memorable event would have never been possible.
Additionally, students had the option to sit at tables and enjoy their meal with the company of their friends! For those who preferred to spread out, there was plenty of room on the grass in the senior quad!
One of my favorite things about the BBQ was that it gave us another event to socialize and have a momentary pause from all of the upcoming events as graduation nears. As seniors, it’s so important to take a break from worrying about schoolwork and enjoy the little time we have left of high school. Before we know it, we will be walking across the stage to receive our diplomas.
Senior Emely Romo wanted to take a moment and appreciate her favorite moment of the BBQ, saying, “It brought students and staff together to celebrate our hard-earned CASSPP scores, our award, and also the memories, dedication, and the community that has been built these last four years.”
Isys Garcia Morrison, another senior, shared her favorite aspect was “that the senior quad closed off so that the seniors could have their moment with their fellow peers and friends.”
The additional senior event reminded us of how close the class of 2026 is to graduating. It also helped us remember the importance of just having fun together and one of the reasons why we put in the work in school.
We only have a couple more events left for seniors, so make sure to not miss out on the last few opportunities! I am sure that the upcoming senior events, such as senior sunset, are going to be just as incredible!
