Every year, people have high expectations for prom. Here at Canyon, ticket prices can reach up to $210, and beyond that, preparations, outfits, and accessories cost even more. This year, though, many agree the price was worth it.
Canyon’s prom 2026 was held on April 25 at Madame Tussauds, a wax museum located on the famous Hollywood Blvd. It is a unique tourist attraction beloved by many for its three-floor, maze-like interior filled with life-sized realistic wax figures. From Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny to Jake Sully and Indiana Jones, there’s a wax figure of almost everyone you can name that is mainstream or popular today!
Exploring the museum and all of the beautiful (albeit uncanny at times) attractions was one of my favorite parts of the night. A fellow senior, Melody Ramirez, who also attended prom noted, “There was a lot of interactiveness throughout the museum! In the horror section with Edward Scissorhands and the famous door from “The Shining,” there was an ax and hole in the door you could actually see through! In every room, there were also clothes you could put on related to the movies around: there were boxing gloves from “Rocky,” rainjackets from “It,” cowboy hats from a variety of western films—it was so cool!”
The theme for our prom this year was “Night Among the Stars,” which could be interpreted in a few different ways. For one, we were literally walking among famous stars throughout the museum. Dancing to “Hands On Your Knees” right next to Jimmy Fallon and Ariana Grande is definitely something not a lot of people can say they did in their lifetime! Another way the theme came into play was the venue had a rooftop on the third floor where guests could eat and lounge right under the stars! It was a nice space to escape the crowds and talk with friends that I, for one, appreciated.
Along with the wax figures, there were also other attractions, including a Robot Riot 7D game located on the second floor and a wax hand-making station on the first floor! Senior Jamie Gonzalez, who was able to make a wax-hand, mentioned the process was, “very interesting! We put our hand in ice water and then dunked it in layers of clear and colored wax to make a hollow figure of our hand. My hand was definitely numb afterwards, but it was a unique experience. It was cool to take home a keepsake like that from prom!”
O’Connor Photography had a small photo-taking area on the first floor in the Marvel Universe section for people who wanted professional photos. Senior Elise Haupt, who took advantage of this opportunity, said, “I’m really grateful they had an O’Connor booth at our prom! It allowed students who wanted more than photobooth photos to get them and remember prom by! They had some exclusive deals for larger parties, which I took advantage of!”
As someone who went to prom last year as well, I must say the venues and vibes were drastically different. Last year, Canyon’s prom was held at Camarillo Ranch, a beautiful outdoor venue with large grass areas and a gazebo. Haupt, who went to prom last year with me, mentioned, “Personally, I prefer outdoor venues because there’s a lot of space to roam. There was definitely more to explore at this year’s venue, though.”
All in all, prom is a unique experience every year. I thought that, even though it got crowded at times, it was a blessing to spend a beautiful night at Madame Tussauds with my closest friends! That’s what prom is really about: getting lost in the stars and conversations that we will remember long after we graduate!
